Masters Program for Attorneys |
Thank you for your interest in our Graduate Program for Attorneys. The program is scheduled to begin the weekend of October 14th & 15th, 2006, however, it may be possible for some attorneys to start the program in January if they are unable to start in October. Applications are currently be accepted for the program. The Master of Science (MBA for Attorneys) is awarded for specialized study in a specific business discipline. The Masters Program for Attorneys offered by the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University focuses on teaching attorneys business skills that will help them to expand their practice expertise (i.e., business topics such as economic loss analysis, business valuation, financial planning, health care, and energy industry issues will be covered) along with business skills that will help them to better manage their law practices and/or organizations (e.g., to simultaneously increase revenue and decrease costs). One advantage of the Masters Program for Attorneys at Texas Tech is the emphasis on the business issues that directly apply to attorneys. All course work and projects are related to the practice of law. As you weigh the costs and benefits of a Master’s degree, Texas Tech emerges as an outstanding value. The Masters Program for Attorneys is a fully accredited program. Your instructors will include leading faculty from Texas Tech University and industry experts. Your classmates will be fellow attorneys. The program consists of 36 hours of graduate course work. In addition to course work, the Masters Program for Attorneys also includes a component designated as the Enhancement Program in the Business of Law, which will complement the courses in the Masters program. We are currently seeking approval from the Texas Bar Association so that portions of the enhancement program will count for CLE credit. The Masters Program in Business for Attorneys (including the Enhancement component) will take 24 months to complete. Classes will be taught in an executive format and participants will attend classes that meet one weekend per month from noon – 6:30pm on Saturday and from 9:30am – 5:00pm on Sunday. This schedule will allow participants to fly to Lubbock on Saturday morning from Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and other cities and return home by Sunday evening. Additionally, all class meetings will be videotaped and available on DVD in the event that you must miss class. Admission requirements for the program are that the applicant be a law school graduate. The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is not required for admission. Additional information on the program including a tentative class schedule and a complete list of application procedures is accessible from this website.
